Policies

Below are the major points of my studio policies. Prior to registration, students will receive the full copy of the studio policies and are expected to read, sign and return them to me.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

As the situation with COVID-19 is always evolving, the protocols may change over time. We will follow the protocols as issued by Alberta Health Services (AHS).

If you or someone in your household or cohort is experiencing symptoms and awaiting test results for COVID-19, please do not come to your lesson and I will be happy to teach you online if you are feeling well enough.

All students who come in-person must wear masks and sanitize/wash their hands before, during (when needed) and after their lesson. I will wear a mask and also sanitize my hands regularly. Students must bring all of their own materials, as we will each use our own copy of music. Piano students and I will each play on a different piano. High touch areas will be sanitized between students.

To reduce contact, lessons will be staggered by 15 minutes unless students are from the same family.

When the number of cases of COVID-19 decrease to a manageable and stable level, fully vaccinated piano students will be welcomed back into the studio for in-person lessons. For partially or non-vaccinated piano students, we will need to have a meaningful conversation to decide together if it is in the student's best interest to attend in person. Regarding flute students who are fully vaccinated, we will need to decide together if in-person lessons are the best option. Partially or non-vaccinated flute students should remain with online lessons until such time that the pandemic subsides and there is low risk of transmission or when the student becomes fully vaccinated.

Attendance

Students are expected to commit to lessons for the entire teaching year. A student roster with contact information will be distributed to all students. When a student is unable to attend his/her regularly scheduled lesson time, he/she is highly encouraged to contact another student to ask to switch lesson times. Students are not obligated to accept the switch request. Non-attendance due to lack of practice, truancy, social convenience and vacations will not be made up or rescheduled. In the case of inclement weather, I am happy to teach you online. No shows or lack of notification by 10am the morning of your lesson is considered a forfeited lesson except in the case of a Mulligan lesson (see below).

Mulligan Lesson

I will schedule 1 weekend of my choice in the winter semester for makeup lessons. Students may choose to make up a lesson that they missed for any reason, including vacation, illness, etc.

Teacher Absence

In the event that I have to miss your lesson, I will reschedule your lesson or make it up at another time.

Lesson Termination

Students unable to give their best efforts may be dismissed from lessons. A refund for the balance of tuition will be refunded.
